“Creativity takes courage.”
— Henri Matisse
Over the last two years, individuals have stepped into my studio to create! The desire to expand an intellectual understanding of art, develop a skill, and willingly participate in a type of vulnerability to put art on paper is courageous!
First, I want to specifically thank the 40 artists who not only took my classes but also chose to show their artwork on Friday evening! What a special celebration of YOU! Based on my many conversations, it was evident that the guests attending the show were beyond impressed by the talent and skill represented in your artwork! The evening was a success because you said yes to yourself first, then to art making, and finally to the most vulnerable part, allowing the public to embrace your work!
Second, thank the 200+ guests who walked through the doors to enjoy the art exhibition! I was expecting a crowd, but 200+ was an incredible experience!! I want you to know that you made a BIG difference in someone’s life that night! My artists range from 4 to 85 years of age, and it doesn’t matter if you’re 12, 26, or 82; watching people show up to acknowledge that your art is worthy of viewing is impactful. Thank you for taking time out of your Friday night to join us at the show; I hope you understand your impact on someone’s life.
Last, if you’ve participated in an art class, attended the show, purchased a piece from me, or supported me in any way on my art journey, I want to extend a personal thank you! I have been producing art at a professional level for almost 20 years but the last 2 years of TEACHING have been a highlight in my career as an artist!
Two years ago, my first art therapy workshop came from a personal experience inside my studio that I wanted to share with others. I will forever be grateful for that first class and the encouragement from so many to continue and create more art opportunities.
In navigating disabilities and the nuances of adjusting our lives to support our son, I have learned that I NEED art regularly, and teaching art is the act that saves me daily.
Thank you for allowing me and many others to be courageous with our art!
